South Lake Tahoe, the largest town around the shores of the lake, is the most visited, and often the most crowded, part of the Lake Tahoe area.
Lake Tahoe Blvd. (Hwy 50) that runs along the southern shore is dotted with hotels, motels, shops, restaurants and fast food joints. It is here that visitors can rent the required recreational equipment, whether it is a boat or a snowboard.
Stateline, Nevada, located, as the name suggests just across the state line from South Lake Tahoe, has several ritzy Casinos including familiar names such as Caesars and Harrah's.
Heavenly ski resort is easily accessible from all hotels and motels in South Lake Tahoe. The ride to the top opens a spectacular view of the entire lake area. Two other ski resorts, Kirkwood and Sierra at Tahoe are also only minutes away.
