Named after Smith Ely, president of the Selby Copper Mining & Smelting Co., the city of Ely is located in east central Nevada, at the junction of highways 93, 50 and 6, about 40 miles west of the Utah state line.
Attractions in Ely include the city's murals, Nevada Northern Railway Museum, White Pine Public Museum and, obviously, gambling in one of the city's casinos.
The main point of interest in the area is Humboldt National Forest providing many recreation opportunities. The city also serves as the gateway to the Great Basin National Park and to the Lehman Caves which are located about 80 miles east of the city.
Hotels and motels in Ely are located along highway 50 within one mile of downtown.
